Inside Korea Travel always welcomes vegetarian travelers and families with children

 Hello, Ko-travelers!

Very special guests visited Yanggu this time. It was a family from India! They were vegetarians and do not eat any animal-based foods such as fish, chicken, pork, or beef. Fortunately, Yanggu, Gangwon-do, has a lot of food consisting of wild vegetables from the mountains, so there was no issue regarding food for them. However, as many vegetarians have experienced, Koreans sometimes recommend ‘shrimp jeotgal*’ or ‘anchovy jeotgal’ (*Jeotgal: Jeotgal a salted, preserved seafood that's used for flavoring foods or eaten as a side dish) to foreigners because they don't think of shrimp or anchovies as animal ingredients.

Vegetarians who visit Korea must make sure that there is no ‘shrimp jeotgal’ or ‘anchovy jeotgal’ in their food. In Korean restaurants, ‘shrimp jeotgal’ or ‘anchovy jeotgal’ is often used in vegetable dishes to give them a savory taste, so with these, there may be little food vegetarians can eat!

Anyway, I remember calling restaurants several times for our special guests. It must have been a new experience for both me and the residents of the rural areas. I hope the Indian family had a pleasant experience in Yanggu, which was a relatively relaxed travel schedule so that they could travel with children. Inside Korea Travel always welcomes vegetarian travelers and families with children.
